Fight Like a Girl

Hello sweet teapots! Its been a while... I really wanted to write something before but sometimes inspiration wont arrive.

Today I want to write about the Emilie Autumn's new album. She's one of my favorite artists and it's been 6 years since she released her last disco-graphic work 'Opheliac' and today at 12:00am Fight Like a Girl was worn on the internet.

You can gather some of her information entering THIS wonderful website. I would like to say that this woman inspires me a lot and have helped me through any sort of things I had to live. She's a hardcore violin player and as a former violin player myself, I deeply admire her for her energy and passion at stage. Her skills are mesmerizing.

This album is a piece of art, a musical representation of her book The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls. (Maybe later I will write and entry about that) You will have to hear it and live it on stage to feel "Fight Like a Girl's" energy. Here's a preview of the album THE ASYLUM EMPORIUM You can purchase it there and inmediately will recieve a download link, then the physical copy.

If you like Emilie Autumn and you live in Colombia please join Colombian Plague Rats, actually on 2009 we worked a lot to see her here on Bogotá, and the gig was awesome!

Cheers!

Waist Training

20:01 Cotton Candy Gray 3 Comments

Tightlacing (also called corset training and waist training) is the practice of wearing a tightly-laced corset to achieve extreme modifications to the figure and posture and experience the sensations of a very tight corset. Those who practice tightlacing are called tightlacers. Some tightlacers call the corsets they wear training corsets.

So I have decided to start doing this. I started a few days ago but I wasn't in the mood to blog about it. I'm doing it because I find really beautiful the way the body looks with the modifications of a proper corset lacing. I think women's body has changed a lot and not in a positive way, it is because of modern clothes like low-waist or ultra low-waist pants... I don't find elegant AT ALL those kind of clothes or deformed body by them.

We've got to be ladies!

So far, my process has been wonderful, the only thing I do not fancy is the fact that my boobs look enormous! x'D I'm using an underbust style cut higher on the hips, primarily focusing on the waist is recommended for the waist training process. Overbust styles are not suitable and are not recommended for use in this process.

I don't find the corset annoying at all because I have always loved the aesthetic of it!

Classic Lolita

Why do I love Lolita? (What's lolita here)

I love Lolita Fashion because after years feeling like I was an Anachronic Doll (One of my nicknames), lost in a world with no manners and no interest in history and elegant fashion, I found it. There were those beautiful girls having tea in their fancy beautiful dresses. I was staring and I was deeply happy. i just observed for some years then I got one Mary Magdalene St. Claire One-Piece dress but when I moved to Colombia I lost it.

I didn't notice there was a Lolita community in Colombia until 2009, I was really shy and I didn't have any dresses so I just attended the meetings well-dressed, but I missed Lolita. I had a lot of color in my hair (because I love dying my hair) And there was a lot of people saying Lolita wouldn't fit me because of my messy hair. So I decided to go back to Lolita and make a good wardrobe... I discovered or found out about a legend in Colombia, she was the first Lolita there, she is really PRO and amazing (Zui). She also had a professional brand of Lolita Clothes all around Latinoamerica. So I asked her to make me some clothes.

Then I joined 'Dolce Carnival' The one and only Lolita community in Colombia, we made some Lolidays, we had a web with tips, our pics and everything, I was pretty happy with it, I continued buying Zui's clothes because she could really make wonderful Lolita clothes with personality.

Then Dolce Carnival closed and we had to create another site and community so we created 'Porcelain Caroucel' We have planned Lolidays, runways and some events to help girls who want to became Lolitas without failing n the attempt. (I know it sounds wrooong but its true).

I do not have pics of all my cords, I wish I did though... But I'm going to post some pics.

Photography and Modeling Stuff

21:36 Cotton Candy Gray 0 Comments

I'm really sick about people trying to get a job and not making any effort to do it. I must confess that I use a lot of cellphone pictures in this blog, but it is because it is not part of my photographic work, I mean, I like to share with you some experiences but I'm not using this to introduce myself into the Photographic World.

So, I really think some new models should try to sell themselves without nude photos at first, because really, if someone thinks they can only sell themselves with their nude body they're wrong. They should at least present themselves first with other pictures showing their strongest points.

Don't be tacky, I must confess I have meet really tacky wanna be models in my country and that bothers me, I think one should be the best for the things one love, and if you love modeling, then go to an agency or STUDY and practice.

Having a professional camera does not make you a qualified photographer! I'm not saying that being in a College makes you one either... Just try to study, to learn and investigate about what you're trying to do.

Be ambitious!  Even if you're starting, try to get pictures with good photographers with talent and fame, that will help you a lot! Not only because of the portfolio, but because they have the knowledge about modeling too :)

This is a ModelMayhem article, and I find it really important.

So here is the article by ModelMayhem:

Ditch your cell phone pics!

"You don’t need professional photos to start modeling, but that doesn’t mean you should use just any picture in your portfolio. Even some photos taken by professional photographers should never see the inside of your portfolio.

Note: This is not advice about how to get signed by an agency. Different agencies will prefer to see different styles of photos in applications. For example, commercial model agencies will often prefer to see well developed comp cards, while many editorial fashion agencies will want to see simple snapshots. If you’re unsure, call the agency and ask.
What’s wrong with cell phone pics?
They make you look like you’re not serious about modeling. If you can’t be bothered to spend 15 minutes taking a halfway decent set of photos to show what you look like, why would anyone think you would bother to, say, show up to a shoot on time? Modeling is all about appearances. If you don’t appear serious, people will assume you are not.

Throw away these photos*
  1. Photos you took with your cell phone
  2. Photos you took in the bathroom mirror
  3. Photos you took by holding a camera at arm’s length
  4. Photos from a night out with your friends
  5. Photos where you had to crop out another person
  6. Photos from a wedding, even if the photographer was a professional
Okay, don’t throw them away, but don’t use them for modeling. Put them on Facebook. Your friends like seeing all kinds of pictures of you.
Get a clean space
Yes, I know you live in a tiny apartment and you throw your clothes everywhere. Spend a few minutes clearing a small area so we don’t have to see your mess. Clutter is ugly. You don’t want your photos to be ugly, do you?
Let there be light
If possible, shoot these photos during the day, in a place where there’s a lot of indirect sunlight. When you’re standing in direct sunlight, you’ll probably be too bright in some places and too dark in others. If you must shoot at night, turn on all the lights. If possible, don’t use the flash on the camera. That usually flattens features and is notorious for causing red eye.
Wash your face
Don’t wear makeup. Think of your face as a blank canvas. People want to know what they’re working with. Don’t worry, though. Everyone has blemishes. That’s why makeup and Photoshop were invented.  Also, keep your hair simple and natural.  If you want to play with makeup, do so after you have the basic photos finished.
Wear simple clothes
These photos are about you, not your credit card statement. Jeans and a t-shirt or tank top are excellent. Swimwear is also good, especially if you expect to be modeling in that (or less). People need to know your body type, and bulky sweaters, puffy jackets, and hoop skirts prevent that from happening.
Take these four shots:
  • Head and shoulders, straight on
  • Head and shoulders, turned at an angle
  • Full length, head to toe
  • Something to show your personality. Smiling, brooding, laughing, whatever. Show us who you are. No duckface. People will make fun of you for duckface."

Vivienne Westwood

"The most amazing thing about this partnership was to be able to create modern products, with very high quality, for affordable prices"
VIVIENNE WESTWOOD-
This is Vivienne Westwood one of my favourite designers as you know. I'm happy about this alliance between Vivienne and Melissa because now its easier to get some of her designs. My latest acquisition are these babes:

The sweet thing about this shoes is that one of my friends gave 'em to me as a present. It was completely unexpected and I was speechless when she said: "Okay, we want to buy 'em... Happy b-day, Merry x-mas, etc....." It felt good, I felt happy and I still am, not because only I LOOOOOVED these shoes since I saw 'em, because someone gave me something thinking in my happiness and didn't expect anything in exchange, because she really wanted me to feel happy about it.

You can check out some runway pics from the fabulous shoes collection during her Red Collection Spring 2010 show at London Fashion Week.:

hallo!
I'm a lazy arse and I haven't updated anything about this blog, the thing is... I DON'T KNOW IF SOMEONE'S READING ME! lol

Right now I'm fixing my nail polish because tomorrow I have this great final of my make up class. I'm going to use one of Vivienne Westwood runways as a referent, I wanted to do something more edgy but as I'm just starting to learn how to use makeup, my professor told us to pick a simple look. This is the outfit I'm going to wear, i need to look alike this girl, so in my test I will have 45 minutes to arrange my hair and face with this look.

As I do not own any of Vivienne's clothes (well just two pair of shoes) I will have to imitate the clothes, so I'm using a fake leather long black jacket with one of my dad's pins of the Army, A similar skirt with the same shape (I think I bought it on ZARA) And any t-shirt with a goofy print on it. I'm missing the scarf and I do not have a looking alike one. And I don't know what to do about the heels, because last friday I fell and my sprained ankle hurts a lot.

Okay, and last but not least... I want to show you some things I've got in a Vintage Store I love. The name of the store is Mamá Nostalgia

Well, hello!

I'm updating this but I must confess I'm not in a good mood. I'm not doing good at College because my lack of motivation towards life or whatever... I mean, I enjoy Photography, it makes me happy but sometimes I get to think I'm not as good as I should. I want to be successful, you know? I want people to know me, to respect what I do... But sometimes I doubt I deserve it.

Today I was supposed to have a final on College but I was late and I had lots of problems so I couldn't make it. Then I came home and rest a bit. Then I started making some product photos. Yesterday I bought some cupcakes, chocolates and macaroons at lovely Alice's Cherries, and so far the result is this:

I have to other photos to release, I will update this entry later...Maybe. I also asked my fiance to cook a fancy pasta for me, so I could photograph it, the result was good I think, I will be posting some pictures about that later. For now I will show you a draft:

For now I'm leaving, gotta have my beauty sleep, lol.

Loli-Valentine!

I promised I was going to update my Loli-day on Saturday. This time I'm going to write about what I fancy about loli-days. And i'm going to post some pics of the Lolita-Shooting showing you some of the Lolita Styles. If you want to see more pictures from that that you can visit my page on facebook HERE!

"Lolita is a Japanese street fashion inspired primarily by the clothing and general aesthetics of the Rococo and Victorian periods. This fashion movement started in Japan in the 1980’s and has evolved greatly since. Nowadays Lolita Fashion has grown to be relatively popular all over the world. Relatively popular for an obscure Japanese street fashion, that is."
(If you want to know more about Lolita fashion go here www.lolitafashion.org)
I really fancy Lolita fashion. I always try to improve my wardrobe. When I found Lolita I was really happy about it because I felt like it was meant for me, for my style and my personality. I feel like I don't have to change anything to be part of it. I can be, finally myself. Here in Colombia there are some Lolitas and in my City (Bogotá) There is this community named Porcelain Caroucel in which I'm a member and one of the founders.

I went to my favorite tea saloon and made a photo-shooting for my lolita fellas for the magazine I work and for my Photo-composition assignment. The place was crowded because all of the costumers were looking at us and our fancy clothes. We wanted to give each other some Valentine presents, here is mine:

It is a Cat-scarf made by my dear friend Akari, I think its one of the best gifts someone ever gave me. She's Akari, she usually wears the delightful Classic Lolita style:

Today I went back to Alice's Cherries... I'm not in a good mood.

1st I failed at my apple diet so the dress I bought didn't fit.
2nd I was already tired
3rd Today there was a lot of people, I do not enjoy crowds, I know I'm a killjoy.
4rd People touched my camera.
5th I have a huuuuuuuuge headache.
6th Nobody took pictures of me.

:(

I took a lot of pictures for a magazine that doesn't pay what they're supposed to, well they don't pay me at all! I took all those pictures and I was so tired and people didn't help at all.
I want to leave Lolita Fashion, I like it, i enjoy it, but I do not like people and that makes me sad, there are nice girls, but i just don't feel I'm part of anything...

Right know I'm kind of blue but later I will show you some pictures of today.

Yesterday I decided I'm going to design t-shirts in company with a friend. I really like the idea, I want this to be something big and elegant. I don't really like t-shirts, I mean, I'm into a more glamorous code of dress even though I don't dress as good as I wish I did.

Anyway I think there's a lack of good design in t-shirts in Colombia.

For those that care about my chocolate business!
I sold a lot of chocolates, to some of my professors and some others to my college partners. I wish I could sell my muffins but people here is really cheap, they want everything as a gift.

Yesterday I bought 2 Moleskine notebooks, I'm really happy because I like the quality of the paper and everything, but of course most of you would call me a hipster for buying such an expensive note book. Anyway it's good for my daily notes, for my grade project and getting out everything I have on my insides. To do that I'm using my dad's fountain pen with his Parker ink.

Today I'm going to a party. I'm not really a party girl, but I'm the photographer from Raven's Night (the party) I hope everything goes well. I'm making some interviews. RatHaus (my company) is one of the medias that cover the party so I'll have to stay until the end, any other of my RatHaus partners could make it u_u, still I'm going with le boyfriend.

I really like trying new flavors, so I decided to try a new muffin; Apple and nutmeg.
They are very simple, be encouraged to make!

Aprox. 6(Large) or 12(medium) Muffins

2 cups flour

1 tbsp.baking powder
½ tsp.

¼ tsp salt. nutmeg (optional)
½ Green Apple

2 eggs 1 cup milk

2 / 3 cup sugar 4-8 tbsp
.
Melted unsalted butter or vegetable oil warm
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix in a large bowl: flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.
In another bowl, mix melted butter with the milk, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
Add the liquid to the flour and beat with a few movements to incorporate and moisten the ingredients. Sometimes the mixture is left with some lumps but that's okay. Pour the batter into the muffin cups and bake in a preheated oven at 200 °

Remove from oven and let cool for 2 or 3 minutes before removing from the pan.

Right now I'm on Digital Cinema Production, I do not enjoy this class at all, generally I would kill to have this class, but this man (professor) makes everything lame. So, I'm going to tell you about what I did yesterday.

You people must think I'm all bakery, lol. Yesterday Night I made some chocolates to sell and some other muffins just because (I will make an entry with the recipe).  The thing about selling chocolates at college is that I'm asocial and I'm not into begging for money, I don't know if I'm explaining myself well... I do not have a group of friends or anything here at college, or a permanent group, so that makes things complicated for me in the sales area. It's 9:33am and I haven't sell any of the chocolates.

Who Am I?

Well, after I posted my very first entry I realized how dumb it was not to present myself, I don't really know if people is going to read this but I want to do this blog because I love writing and I have been apart from it for a very long time, plus I have a really cathartic and depressing blog, I just thought it would be nice to write about things I love and enjoy.

This is me. I'm Marianne, I'm a photographer and I really enjoy what I do.(You can check out my work here http://www.flickr.com/photos/cottoncandygray/) I'm going to become and architect (I just decided that I will continue studying architecture after all) I love dying my hair but I'm trying to keep it healthy these months without any hair dye. I'm into fashion, it makes me happy, I also love Lolita Fashion (Later I will blog about it). I love baking, it makes me really happy and I like knitting.

Right know I have a project named RatHaus (https://www.facebook.com/rathausco) Check it out!
